Comprehensive Washington State Jurisdictional Information Database

Since arriving home from California I have spent hours every day requesting, reading, and uploading information from cities and counties regarding marijuana regulations. Today, we have up-to-date information for more than 100 jurisdictions across the State of Washington. Wherever possible, we also get zoning maps and buffer zone maps so it is easy to see where within a city a marijuana business could potentially be located. It is shocking to see just how few of areas are going to allow I-502 outlets to open, and even more shocking just how rare possible locations are!

One week, from journalist bound for Spain to CannaMLS founding member

Todd and I at the vendors' Hempfest VIP party
Forecast called for 79 degrees with 90 percent humidity the first day of Hempfest 2013. I arrived before the madness begun to attend the press conference. 9 hours later my heart rejoiced upon seeing two friendly faces, Todd and Jesse from CannaMLS. I remembered them vividly from our meeting two weeks before, their business venture enthralled me on the spot. We met inside, after I sweet talked my way into a ticket, and Todd became my savior when he tracked me down a salad after the famish of a long day with little food hit me.

We took over a table up front, and chatted throughout the night when our networking rounds brought us back together. I enjoyed hearing about the team's experiences thus far, as well as their plan to help spur the cannabis industry with their world-class online platform for uniting the cannabis community.

A few days late I sat bewildered at home. Between the long hours in the sun, high amounts of THC intake, and the abundance of work from Hempfest piled onto my regular duties, my brain felt fried. So I decided to checkout CannaMLS's website. Quickly a few typos caught my editor's eye, and I emailed Todd suggested corrections around 10:30. In response, I was invited to attend their meeting at 1 pm the following day, and despite having no car to use I knew I had to be there. And so I went, took notes, and offered a few valuable insights as well as my moderating services. Followed the team over to their dive bar, and proceeded to talk business. By the end of the evening, my head spun with possibilities. And so it all began.

It quickly became apparent that my addition to the team would be valuable. Taking the opportunity would require me to resign from another position, one I had worked tirelessly at to help launch the company for over 7 months without even getting paid. And while I love that team and their product, CannaMLS's goal of connecting the cannabis community fit with my life mission to be an agent of change in this broken world. Quite a dilemma.

Spain presented another dilemma. Having accepted a part-time teaching position within the Spanish education system, I was slated to leave for Spain in 6 weeks. But at Hempfest it hit me just how fast the movement is growing. I had long since realized the ramifications of the historic experiments playing out in Colorado and Washington, but having been on the road frequently, hadn't quite realized what it felt like living in one of the cultural, economic and political epicenters of the Cannabis movement.

Give this up to go on a European adventure? Exotic foods, salsa clubs which close at sunrise and adventures I can't even contemplate right now surely await. But at Hempfest it hit me that if I left, even just for a year, I'd miss my greatest opportunities to be a part of the greatest social experiment and resulting possible economic boom I'm likely to ever see in my lifetime. Europe will always be there, but this opportunity, one which could address many of the world's most pressing problems if done correctly, once in a life time.

And so on August 25th, 2013 I decided to stay, finalizing the decision with a small bowl at a farmers market with my brother visiting from San Diego. Although the decision was not 'finalized' in my head, in my heart I knew I should continue on with CannaMLS.

On Wednesday, Jesse, a founding member of CannaMLS, asked me to help him produce 10 Days in a Madhouse, the real life experience of Nellie Bly. The opportunity came with a potentially nice paycheck, and great networking opportunities in the independent film world. Hurting for cash after working for free for so long, I said yes even before hearing the story about one of the first feminists who changed the world with her courage, dedication and vision. Helping bring her inspirational story to the big screen fit right with my goal of empowering people to be the change they want to see in the world. Despite not believing in destiny, it seemed like I was right where I was meant to be.

The very next day the Department of Justice broke their 8 months of suspenseful silence and announced their decision to let the states' cannabis laws stand, for now. Many claim this very well could signal the beginning to the end of the War on Drugs.  I did a victory dance, and emailed the announcement to the CannaMLS team.

When it hit me that Saturday night all that had happened over the past week, I caught myself wondering if I should pinch myself... that feeling has yet to begin to fade.
